Located on the western shores of two Lake Ray Hubbard peninsulas, in far east Dallas County and a portion of west Rockwall County, Rowlett is one of the area’s fastest growing communities. This vibrant city has experienced a whopping 400 percent growth since 1980. Currently  more than 55,000 people call Rowlett home.

The history of the city goes back to the times when Daniel Rowlett and a small immigrant company of several families left Tennessee for Texas in late 1835 to settle in the Tulip Bend area of the Red River near present day Bonham. For military service performed during the Texas revolution he earned a land grant located in Collin County, near present day Allen. A large creek ran through the land and came to be known as Rowlett’s Creek. Daniel Rowlett became a leading citizen of Fannin County and never lived near the creek that bore his name.

Rowlett—along with Mesquite and north Garland—became one of the hotter new home markets in the 1990s because of its location just 20 minutes from downtown Dallas and north of IH-30 and it’s affordable housing. That’s still the case today. With a city motto of “On the Water and On the Move”, Rowlett has been ranked as one of the Top 25 Best Places To Live by Money magazine.

Rowlett is a part of two school districts that both recognized by Texas Education Agency (TEA). The Dallas County portion of Rowlett is served by the Garland Independent School District, while the Rockwall County portion is a part of the Rockwall Independent School District. Garland ISD has a free choice program that allows for a student to attend any school within the district. Rockwall ISD residents are zoned to Cullins-Lake Pointe Elementary School, Williams Middle School and Rockwall High School.

The residents enjoy a large variety of recreational options. With more than 30 miles of shoreline on the lake the city is one of the most beautiful places to live in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The city also has a 130-acre multiple use park in the northeastern part of town.

For golf enthusiasts Rowlett offers Waterview Golf Club, which  boasts a championship golf course with a challenging level of play for all golfers, from beginners to professionals. The golf club features a lush, gently rolling, par 72 course featuring 15 acres of lakes and 1,500 trees representing 18 different species. With extensive practice facilities, an on-site bar and grill, and the finest greens in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Waterview Golf Club is the premier destination for championship play.

The location of the city also provides close proximity to premium shopping and entertainment venues and a wide range of excellent restaurants to choose from.

Rowlett hosts a Downtown Special Events Series that includes a year-long list of great activities in downtown Rowlett on Main Street. Thus, life is never boring in this vibrant community.

The city has undergone a  major change with the construction of the President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT) Eastern Extension and the DART Blue Line Light Rail extension from Garland.

The turnpike extension is a $1.2 billion, 9.9 mile extension of the President George Bush Turnpike which connects SH 78 in Garland at Firewheel Town Center to IH-30 east of Bass Pro in Garland. The majority of the new turnpike traverses Rowlett and will provide a super economic engine for the City’s development and growth.

The DART Blue Line extension is a 4.4 mile light rail track that will connects downtown Rowlett with the Blue Line terminus in downtown Garland and on to downtown Dallas.
